11-30-21 – Flight to Iquitos and speedboat ride to the Delfin III

We left half of our luggage at the airport hotel and headed to the airport to catch our flight to Iquitos.  We have discovered that we are now officially "Old" and in need of "Special Assistance".  More than once while in Peru we have been approached by airport staff and directed to the "Special Assistance" line.  Up side is that the lines are generally much shorter.

We got some nice views of the Andes and the rivers...whenever the clouds cleared up.

Once there we (and a lot of other people) were met by the crew of the Delfin.  First issue was that there were some ongoing protests in the city so they couldn’t put us on buses to the boat.  So we are going by speedboat instead.

The drive to the boat dock took us through much of the city of Iquitos.  It looks like it would be worth doing some sightseeing but there seems to be no time.

This does seem to be the "Land of Tuk Tuks".

The drive through town took us to the river and the boat dock...

where some of us boarded a boat to go out to a restaurant floating in the river (to use the bathrooms).  They even had a pool floating in the river.

Several of us stayed at the restaurant while the boat headed back for the other guests.  Once we were all picked up in the speedboats we were off on a nearly 3 hour boat ride on the Amazon through the river system to the Delfin III.  We saw a lot of river traffic...big ferries transporting people, cars and goods, as well as small boats with families or fishermen.

We arrived late afternoon, settled in and got ready to enjoy our cruise through the Amazon Basin.  (Little actual cruising on the Amazon itself.)

The river is very wide here and has lots of debris in it…lots of very large logs. But its beautiful.

And we had a modest sunset.

This is a map of the rivers that we will sailing over the next few days.
