11-22-21 – Train to Cusco

We have a midafternoon train to Cusco so we hung out in the room for a while and then transferred to the lodge.  We had lunch at the hotel again and then, after another short wait, we headed out through the market to the train station.  The bellman at the hotel was waiting for us with our bag.  A big convenience.

Then it was on the train for a four-hour trip to Cusco.  During the ride one of the crew members dressed in an exotic costume and danced up and down the aisle.  We didn't catch the announcement as to what it was for...but the costume was pretty wild.

Later they put on a fashion show with fashion made of Alpaca and Llama wool items.

The scenery was beautiful.

We passed a number of Inca terraces, with better shots this time.

Unfortunately much of the stretch that was new to us (from Ollantaitambo to Cusco) was after dark so we missed all of that.  Much of it was a steep climb up the sides of the mountains.

We arrived at Cusco well after dark and were met by Margot and Caesar.  The drive to our hotel was rather long…the train station is well outside of the city proper.  But we did have some good views of the valley full of lights.

Our hotel, another Aranwa, is about a block from one of the two main squares.  It is good location.  Fortunately, the restaurant hadn’t closed yet so we were able to get some dinner.  Then it was off to bed.
